NO!
On most free hosting services, either email accounts could not be created with the added domain name, or they did not offer access to DNS Administration, among others.
If you use the script on one of these services, only via mail(), the script would continue to work perfectly (based on the hosting's daily email sending limitations), but ISP services would send your emails to SPAM, or simply block most of the emails sent.
In our tests on shared hosting using SMTP, 100% allowed us to perfectly comply with ISP requirements; therefore, our next filter to apply was simply based on price.
